# Unknown error code

> Where docs_url points when a structured error carries a code the registry does not know

# Unknown error code

You followed a `docs_url` ending in `/errors/unknown`. The node emits that URL when a structured error carries a code that is not in its error registry (`core/storage/src/error_codes.rs`), so there is no dedicated page for it.

## What to do

* Read the receipt's `code`, `what`, `why` and `context` fields directly; they carry the emitter's message even when no page exists.
* Check the [error code reference](https://docs.cowboy.inc/errors/overview.md). The code may belong to a newer node release than these docs, or the docs may lag the registry.
* If a current node emits an unregistered code, report it with the transaction hash: every code the node emits is meant to have a registry entry, and the node's own tests check that.
